The Rainbow Bridge concert was the penultimate performance by Hendrix in the United States, his last was two days later on August 1, 1970, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hendrix died less than two months later on September 18, 1970 in London, England. -Original
Fans might be familiar with Jimi Hendrix’s 1970 Rainbow Bridge concert through the Rainbow Bridge movie (1972) and the subsequent Rainbow Bridge soundtrack (on vinyl but has never been released on CD).
Music collector Philip Cohen points out: “While the Rainbow Bridge film contains 25 minutes of Maui concert footage, the so-called “soundtrack”, the Rainbow Bridge LP (released by Reprise Records), contains no actual Maui recordings. The one concert track on that LP is from Berkeley.”
