The Digital Dan says:
Generally I have always considered sound checks to be filler material. But, this sound check is a little special. For one thing it is much longer than usual. The other special thing about this sound check is the only known "live" performance of "Entre Nous". One of my favorite tracks too so it is very interesting to hear them play this song (yet not play it at the concert). The sound quality is not too bad, about VG or so and sounds right for the Richfield Coliseum and Hara Arena. It definitely wasn't recorded from the parking lot as I have been to many shows at the RC and that sounds correct for a building that size. After all this is where the Cav's played, not well mind you, but they did play there for years so it is a rather large arena. Incidentally as I am writing this they are taking wrecking balls to the place since the Gund is the new home of the Cav's. There is distortion in the bass range, to be expected from a tape this old and the situation under which it was recorded. Still very listenable. The Jam with Billy Sheehan on bass was recorded during the sound check on the Presto tour. This is another really cool recording with really good sound, bit heavy on the bass, but that is what actually makes it better. Unlike sound checks that can get repetitive and boring, this one is a great jam and the boys are definitely having fun. The last tracks is another sound check from the Presto tour, a bit distant, but the best sound quality of all the sound checks on this release. I wouldn't consider this a mush have for average Rush fans. If you are a serious Rush fan, than yes it is a must if only for "Entre Nous" and the "Jam with Billy Sheehan". All in all a very different slice of Rush with some real rare gems thrown in for good measure. And yes, I did spent a lot of time mixing and mastering these recordings to get the best possible sound out of each. -Original
