The third of five nights in Chicago, and the best performance so far with a bunch of oddities in the set. "Gloria" makes its first appearance in the set since nearly ten years ago at the end of the "Vertigo" tour (12/14/05), the second performance of "Lucifer's Hands" (the first being in Montreal on 6/13), and only the second performance of "All I Want Is You" on the current tour (the first in L.A. 5/31). Bono was clearly inspired by the Gay Pride parade which took place in Chicago earlier in the day, and there were multiple references to the celebration of gay rights and the power of love. Inspiring show. Bono references that several band members' sons (I think Bono's, Edge's, and Larry's) were all in attendance tonight, as well as Bono's wife.
In terms of recording quality, tonight was one of those rare nights where everything came together. I was in a direct line to one of the overhead speaker stacks, and the audience members in my immediate vicinity were pretty quiet. There's some chatter during the quiet parts, but none that I could hear intruding on the music. I'm very happy with this recording. -Original

"This one came out better than I thought it would. Overall I think this is a decent recording. Although the crowd near by is pretty loud at times, there are hardly any audience comments, at least for the first half of the show it remains remarkable quiet. With Mysterious Ways & Elevation things got a bit rough with screaming and stuff, but I was able to remove the "OMG, Mike [...] got pulled up on stage" for the "meercat-thing." At points this recording is remarkable clear and steady (e.g., Song For Someone) but in the more up-tempo songs, the high frequencies tend to break away, typically where Larry's cymbals are, giving it a bit of an "outdoor" feel (this effect of air moving accross the mics - either by wind, crowd movement or movement of the mics themselves could be minimized by using so-called windscreens, if only self-created from old nylons or socks!). But certainly in comparison to the Montréal 2 mixlr recording, this one certainly sounds better overall!" -BIGGIRL2015

KISS’ first visit to Cleveland in April 1974 found the up and coming band opening for Rory Gallagher at the 1,200 capacity Agora Theatre. Local radio station WMMR would routinely feature live broadcasts of musical acts from the theatre as part of their 'Nights Out At The Agora' series and while the station did broadcast Gallagher’s set, nothing has ever surfaced of KISS performance. According the KISS Alive Forever they did not broadcast KISS, but a recording did exist and eventually did surface a few months back to the masses via a couple torrent sites. The recording is special, it is the earliest known broadcast of a KISS concert and since WMMR had been doing live broadcasts for some time one could expect excellent quality. Well, the quality is excellent, clear and detailed with virtually no hiss. The mix does move around a bit during Deuce sounding like the engineer was feeling the new group out. This release, as with the original torrent has almost all the between song chatter edited out, only between Firehouse and Nothin’ To Lose is
there, the audience are very low in the mix. -ORIGINAL

- Peter was asphyxiated at the end of the show when the drum riser got
stuck up by the ceiling. He ended up in the Vincent Charity Hospital.
- Nights Out At The Agora was a project between the Agora and local radio stations, in Cleveland's case, WMMR, that recorded live sets from artists and offered those shows to partner radio stations for broadcast. "If a radio station wants to put on the hour, we send the tapes weekly and the station makes a commitment giving the show a certain amount of promos... plus they give the network three spots in the body of the show which the network can either use or sell. The station benefits because they keep three spots. And in Cleveland it's WMMR jocks that emcee our shows. And we tend to advertise on the stations that are running our shows" (Radio Report, 11/23/78) This operation eventually developed into "On Stage at the Agora," a local TV broadcast simulcast on radio. This KISS show was booked under the auspices of "Nights Out at the Agora" so may have been recorded since mostly new acts were featured early on (the show ran 1974-84) This show circulates as a SBD.  -kissmonster.com

Note: This is a 24/44.1 file set, which in most cases can't be burned directly to CD without downsampling to 16-bit. A 16-bit, CD-friendly version will be posted separately. The recording is seamless; the disc breaks above are merely a suggestion.
The second of five nights in Chicago; significantly different setlist from the prior night and a very passionate performance. Bono frequently shook his head in amazement at the reaction the band was getting from the audience, and he clearly felt it was a special show.
Recording quality is pretty good; I got as far to the side as I could to capture as much of the overhead PA as possible - the recording came out better than I expected, though there is occasional chatter from neighbors and passersby on the floor. I haven't listened through the whole thing yet, but I didn't notice anything that was disruptive enough to get in the way of enjoyment of the music. -Original

Larry accidentally began playing the drum beat of Out Of Control during Vertigo's intro. Elevation was played in honour of the Chicago Blackhawks, who a few days previously won the Stanley Cup at this very venue. Pride contained a passionate reference to the recent tragic racially-motivated massacre in Charleston, South Carolina. At the end of Beautiful Day, Bono spoke of the successful Irish referendum for marriage equality before the snippet of I Remember You. Mick Jagger, Chris Rock, and Paul McGuinness were all in attendance and Bono acknowledged them before I Still Haven't Found. -U2gigs.com

U2 performed for World AIDS Day in Times Square as "U2 Minus 1". Because of his recent bicycle accident, Bono was under doctor's orders to not perform, so Chris Martin of Coldplay and Bruce Springsteen took turns fronting the band. U2 opened the show with two songs, fronted by Martin; Carrie Underwood then played a set with Edge on guitar for one song; Kanye West performed the third set; and U2 with Bruce Springsteen closed proceedings with another two-song set. -Original

Smores was kind enough to send me over his master WAV while still in Montreal taping the 4th night of U2 as well. No EQ’ing was done to the recording, just brought up the waveform. Once again, he brings a stellar tape! Big thanks to Smores for sharing his recording and thanks to Mixter for the help tracking the show! Enjoy the recording! -Original
